Bài 2
カタカナ / ー
katakana / long-vowel mark
Katakana và dấu kéo dài âm Katakana and the long-vowel mark
Katakana thường dùng cho từ mượn, tên nước ngoài, tên riêng nước ngoài và một số từ cần làm nổi bật. Vì vậy ở bài này bạn sẽ thấy rất nhiều tên nước như オーストラリア, スペイン, タイ.
Katakana is commonly used for loanwords, foreign country names, foreign personal names, and words that need visual emphasis. That is why this lesson includes many country names such as オーストラリア, スペイン, タイ.
Dấu ー kéo dài nguyên âm ngay trước nó. Ví dụ ページ không đọc ngắn là peji mà là peeji; ロシア thì không có dấu ー nên không kéo dài theo cùng cách.
The mark ー lengthens the vowel before it. For example, ページ is not read shortly like peji but as peeji. By contrast, ロシア has no ー, so it is not lengthened in the same way.
Người Việt hay bỏ qua độ dài âm trong katakana vì chữ trông “na ná tiếng Anh”. Hãy đọc đúng nhịp Nhật, không đọc theo chính tả tiếng Anh hay tiếng Việt.
Vietnamese learners often ignore vowel length in katakana because the words look similar to English. Read them with Japanese rhythm, not with English or Vietnamese spelling habits.

Mẹo nhìn hình chữ Shape tip
Khi dễ nhầm シ / ツ hay ソ / ン, hãy nhìn hướng nét ngắn. Đừng chỉ đoán theo trí nhớ mơ hồ.When you confuse シ / ツ or ソ / ン, look at the direction of the short strokes. Do not rely only on a vague visual memory.
Âm ngắt và tổ hợp âm ngoại lai Pauses and foreign-sound combinations
Chữ nhỏ ッ trong katakana hoạt động giống っ trong hiragana: nó tạo một nhịp ngắt ngắn trước phụ âm tiếp theo. Ví dụ ベッド và チケット có phụ âm đôi rõ ràng.
Small ッ in katakana works like っ in hiragana: it creates a short pause before the next consonant. Words like ベッド and チケット clearly contain doubled consonants.
Katakana còn tạo thêm nhiều âm để gần với cách phát âm quốc tế hơn, ví dụ ティ, ファ, フィ, ウィ, ヴァ. Đây là những âm không nằm nguyên vẹn trong bảng 50 âm truyền thống.
Katakana also creates many extra combinations to approximate international pronunciation, for example ティ, ファ, フィ, ウィ, ヴァ. These are not full traditional 50-sound-row items on their own.
Với người Việt, khó khăn lớn nhất là thêm nguyên âm không cần thiết. Ví dụ ティ không phải tii tách hai nhịp, còn ファ không phải hua.
For Vietnamese learners, the biggest issue is adding an unnecessary vowel. For example, ティ should not be split into two beats like ti-i, and ファ should not be read like hua.
Ví dụ / Examples
ベッド。beddo.
ベッド có chữ nhỏ ッ.
ベッド contains small ッ.
チケット。chiketto.

Lưu ý Note
Trong đời sống, nhiều từ mượn vẫn được viết theo cách quen thuộc hơn là hoàn toàn “quốc tế”. Ví dụ một số từ vẫn dùng ベ thay vì ヴェ.In real usage, many loanwords are still written in familiar Japanese ways rather than in the most “international” spelling. For example, some words use ベ instead of ヴェ.
